SunHawk's Approach to Treating Adolescent Substance Abuse

Teenage Alcoholic Drug UserSunHawk Adolescent Recovery Center's integrated recovery, clinical, and academic services provide students with the tools to improve their lives and their relationships with their families.

Our staff of master's level therapists, licensed substance abuse counselors, and other skilled professionals specializes in treating teen drug and alcohol abuse. Many of these caring professionals have firsthand experience in recovery, and have chosen to work with the teens at SunHawk because they have witnessed the profound changes that happen in a long-term drug rehab program like ours.

Because all of our students are confronting a drug or alcohol problem, all of our therapeutic interventions concentrate on addressing substance abuse and any dual diagnosis or co-occurring issues. As a residential drug treatment center built around the 12 steps, we coordinate weekly community service events, daily AA/NA meetings, and weekly sessions with a master's level therapist and a psychiatrist. In addition to individual and family therapy, students at SunHawk receive 28 hours per week of substance abuse-focused group therapy sessions, addressing critical recovery topics such as character education, life skills, relapse prevention, and the 12 steps.

While addressing their substance abuse and co-occurring issues, students participate in a fully accredited academic curriculum and earn credits toward high school graduation. SunHawk students also have time set aside every day to get outdoors and enjoy our on-campus ropes course, classes in martial arts, music, tai chi, and yoga, as well as nearby parks and recreation centers.
