A Typical Day at SunHawk Adolescent Recovery Center
At SunHawk Adolescent Recovery Center, every day begins and ends with a few moments of quiet reflection and meditation. Students get an early start to make room for a full day of recovery-related activities and groups.
During their stay at SunHawk, students stay on track in school while receiving long-term substance abuse treatment. Teens participate in fully accredited academic classes in the afternoons and evenings, leaving the rest of the day free for group therapy, on-campus and off-campus 12-Step meetings, and hands-on learning activities.
With more than 32 hours a week of group therapy, teens have every opportunity to process the issues underlying their substance abuse and to work through Steps 1 through 5 of the 12 Steps. Exercise and experiential activities break up the day, allowing teens to participate in ropes course initiatives, yoga, music, martial arts classes, and various games and activities.
Twice a week, students participate in relapse prevention groups, where they learn to identify triggers and thinking errors and develop coping skills to maintain their sobriety in the face of challenges after they leave SunHawk. Life skills groups are also scheduled twice a week to help teens develop the communication, stress management, budgeting and social skills they need to successfully manage daily life.
On weekends, teens enjoy recreation time, which may involve community service projects or off-campus trips to the local recreation center, theaters, college sporting events, bowling, movies and more. The afternoons are devoted to helping each student become the best person they can be through character education workshops on values, leadership, self-esteem and other pertinent topics.
