Frequently Asked Questions
Where is your program located?
SunHawk is located in St. George, Utah (in the scenic southwest corner of the state, with features including a temperate climate and views of the Mojave Desert, Zion National Park and the majestic Pine Valley Mountains).
What type(s) of students is your program prepared to serve?
SunHawk was created to provide comprehensive residential treatment to teens ages 13-17 who have been struggling with substance abuse/addiction and common co-occurring issues (such as depression, anxiety, grief/loss, family conflict and impulse control problems).
How much will tuition cost?
Because we offer comprehensive and highly individualized services, costs associated with enrolling in SunHawk depend upon a number of personal factors, including (but not necessarily limited to) anticipated length of stay and the nature and severity of the issues the child is struggling to overcome.
Our admissions advisors will be happy to work with you to develop a detailed financial picture based upon your family’s unique needs.
Does your school provide financing options?
Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. If you're interested in determining if you would qualify for a private loan, we work with an independent loan organization called Clark Behavioral Health Financing. Loans can cover tuition, enrollment fees and miscellaneous expenses including transportation to and from the program.
CBHF features multiple loan products with competitive rates, and a possible deferral of interest for up to 6 months with no prepayment penalties or cancellation fees. Learn more about financing options.
Will my child be working with qualified and licensed professionals?
Absolutely! Our staff is composed of master's level therapists, licensed substance abuse counselors, and other skilled professionals. In addition to being supremely talented, dedicated and experienced, the members of our academic, clinical and administrative teams hold a range of credentials, licenses and certifications.
For more specific information about the professionals who make SunHawk such a powerful and effective program, visit our Staff page.
Is your program accredited?
Yes. We have been accredited by the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSP) and the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS).
How long will my child need to remain at SunHawk?
The average length of stay for SunHawk is approximately 6 months. Discharge is based on internalization of the first five steps as well as completion of the individual treatment plan. Our adolescents don't just wait for their time in treatment to lapse; they know they must perform and work to achieve graduation and sobriety.
How will SunHawk meet my child’s academic needs?
Highlights of our academic program include the following:
- A fully accredited curriculum (Northwest Association of Accredited Schools)
- A new state-of-the-art computer lab

SunHawk is a 12 Step-based program. What is a typical day like for SunHawk students?
Adolescents and teenagers thrive when given clearly defined structure, limits, and expectations. We provide each student with a highly structured daily schedule and follow a level system based on clear rules and expectations that are designed to reward responsible adolescent behavior.
How much involvement will I have in my child’s experience at your program?
Your involvement is essential to your child’s success, and our program encourages you to remain an active positive presence in his life.
In addition to regular reports from the school and weekly phone conversations with SunHawk staff members, we also offer two intensive parent workshops. You will also be able to stay connected with you child via our secure online Parent Checkin program.
How do you prepare students (and families) for life after they leave your program?
We work closely with all students and parents to prepare detailed plans to support our students’ continued successes after they complete our program and return home. Transition planning begins the day your child arrives at SunHawk.
Also if a student relapses within one year of completion of the program, he or she may return to SunHawk for a 45-day refresher course at no cost.
